Stakeholder
A person outside the Scrum Team with a specific interest in and knowledge of the product, needed for the Sprint Review's inspection.
What it means
Stakeholders include customers, users, executives, sales, and other departments affected by or invested in the product. They are not part of the Scrum Team and do not direct the Developers' work.
Their primary formal touchpoint is the Sprint Review, where they inspect the Increment and provide feedback that shapes the Product Backlog. The Product Owner is responsible for managing this relationship day to day.
Common mistakes
Overexposing Developers to stakeholder requests outside the Product Owner's process can undermine backlog ordering and self-management, so healthy Scrum Teams route stakeholder input through the Product Owner.
Example
A regional sales director joins the Sprint Review to see the new pricing feature before it ships to her market.
