Openness (Scrum value)
One of the five Scrum values: the Scrum Team and its stakeholders agree to be open about the work and the challenges within it.
What it means
Openness underpins transparency, one of Scrum's three pillars: without a willingness to disclose real progress and real problems, no amount of dashboards or reports creates genuine transparency.
Openness applies both within the team, such as admitting an estimate was wrong, and toward stakeholders, such as being candid at the Sprint Review about what did not get finished.
Common mistakes
A team culture that punishes bad news erodes openness quickly, even if formal Scrum events are still held on schedule.
Example
A Developer openly flags at the Daily Scrum that an approach is not working, rather than quietly struggling until the Sprint Review.
