Commitment (Scrum value)

One of the five Scrum values: people personally commit to achieving the team's goals and to supporting each other.

What it means

Commitment is expressed concretely through the Product Goal, Sprint Goal, and Definition of Done, the three commitments attached to Scrum's artifacts, giving each artifact a measurable purpose.

At a team level, commitment means Developers commit to the Sprint Goal, not to an exact scope list, since scope can shift as understanding improves during the Sprint.

Common mistakes

Commitment as a value also implies commitment to the team and its success, not only to individual tasks, reinforcing collective accountability over individual heroics.

Example

Even when a task takes longer than planned, the Developers stay committed to the Sprint Goal by adjusting scope rather than abandoning it.
